Atelier Culling is an independent software studio based in Tokyo, Japan, dedicated to building precise instruments for statistical analysis and data exploration.
Studio
Founded in 2026, Atelier Culling is a sole proprietorship focused on Mac and iOS software development. We build a small number of tools — each designed with care, implemented from first principles.
The studio is not affiliated with any larger organization. Every design decision, every line of statistical code, comes from a single independent developer.
Philosophy
Atelier — French for workshop or studio — reflects the way we work: one craftsperson, one set of tools, deliberate attention to every detail.
Culling reflects our subject: statistical analysis is fundamentally an act of selection, of distinguishing signal from noise. We build instruments for that process.
We avoid dependencies on statistical black boxes. Where a distribution function is needed, we implement it from first principles. Where an interface element serves no purpose, we remove it. Precision over convenience; clarity over feature count.
Products
DataExplorer is our first product — a statistical analysis application for Mac and iOS. It covers descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, regression, and visualization, implemented entirely without external statistical libraries. Available in English, Japanese, and French. Planned release: November 2026.
